Appifire Widget Not Showing: Troubleshooting Checklist

Fix a missing Appifire chat bubble on Shopify: visibility toggle, Appearance, theme embed, wrong theme, cache, mobile, blockers, and when to escalate.

You will find why the Appifire chat bubble is missing and turn it back on. Most cases are a visibility toggle, a disabled App embed, or testing the wrong theme, not a broken install.

When you finish, the launcher should show on your live (or preview) storefront, or you will have a clear escalate packet for support.

Direct answer

Check Enable chat widget on storefront in Appifire Appearance (or Settings → Visibility). Confirm the AppiFire Chat App embed is on for the theme you are viewing. Hard-refresh or use a private window. If it still fails, compare another theme preview, then fix theme placement or blockers.

Prerequisites

  • Access to Shopify admin and the Appifire app
  • Ability to open the live theme and Theme Editor
  • A second browser or private window for cache checks
  • Optional: mobile device or responsive preview

Fast checks (2 minutes)

Do these before deep theme work:

  1. Note the store domain and the exact URL you tested (home, PDP, password page).
  2. Confirm you are on the published theme (or intentionally in a preview).
  3. Hard-refresh the storefront (or open a private window).
  4. Open Appifire → Appearance (or Settings → Visibility).
  5. Confirm Enable chat widget on storefront is on. Save if you changed it.
  6. Reload the storefront.

Expected result: If the toggle was off, the bubble returns without theme code changes.

Step 1: Confirm visibility is on

  1. In Appifire admin, open Appearance.
  2. Find Enable chat widget on storefront.
  3. Turn it on.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Reload the storefront.

The widget JS checks this flag before it draws the bubble. Off means hidden on purpose, not uninstalled.

Expected result: Launcher appears after refresh.

Step 2: Enable the App embed on the theme you are testing

  1. From Appifire Appearance, use Open Theme Editor (App embeds), or go to Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds.
  2. Enable AppiFire Chat (Appifire AI Chat embed).
  3. Click Save in the Theme Editor.
  4. Open the storefront for that same theme.

Appearance still controls color, position, and welcome text. The embed is what allows the widget to load on the theme.

Expected result: Embed is enabled and saved; bubble can load.

Step 3: Confirm you are on the right theme

  1. Online Store → Themes: note which theme is Current.
  2. Test the live storefront URL (not an old preview link).
  3. If you only see the bubble in a draft theme preview, publish the correct theme, or enable the embed on the live theme too.

Expected result: Live theme and test URL match.

Step 4: Page and password gotchas

Check these common traps:

SituationWhat to do
Storefront password pageUnlock or log in as a visitor who can see the shop; password splash may not show the same widgets
Testing checkoutMany apps do not show on checkout. Test home or a product page
Custom landing page / headlessConfirm the theme JSON template includes the Appifire block/embed path you use
“Show on all pages” expectationsInstall may auto-inject into JSON templates; still verify embed + visibility for your live theme

Expected result: You are testing a normal storefront template the widget supports.

Step 5: Desktop vs mobile

If the bubble shows on desktop but not mobile (or the reverse):

  1. Re-check Chat bubble position (bottom left / bottom right) in Appearance.
  2. Look for theme elements covering the corner (sticky bars, cookie banners, WhatsApp buttons).
  3. Test another mobile browser.
  4. Zoom/safe-area issues: scroll slightly; some themes overlap fixed buttons.

Expected result: You know if it is missing everywhere or only under a covering UI element.

Step 6: Cache, extensions, and blockers

  1. Private/incognito window with extensions disabled.
  2. Disable ad blockers / script blockers for your domain.
  3. Try another browser.
  4. If you use a CDN or bot shield in front of the shop, confirm it is not blocking Appifire widget scripts or /api/widget-settings.

Expected result: Bubble appears when blockers are off, or you have evidence a blocker is involved.

Step 7: Theme conflict isolation

  1. Preview a clean Shopify theme (or another installed theme) with Appifire embed on.
  2. If the bubble shows there but not on your live theme, the live theme CSS/JS is interfering or the block is missing from templates.
  3. In Theme Editor, confirm the Appifire chat app block/section is present where your theme expects app blocks (or rely on the install injection + embed for your setup).
  4. Avoid editing theme code to “force” the widget until Steps 1-6 are done.

Expected result: You know whether the issue is Appifire settings or the live theme.

Verification checklist

  • Enable chat widget on storefront is on and saved
  • App embed AppiFire Chat is enabled and Theme Editor is saved
  • Tested on the current published theme URL
  • Hard-refresh or private window used
  • Home or product page tested (not only checkout/password)
  • Mobile checked if the report was mobile-only
  • Blockers disabled for a control test
  • Bubble opens and welcome message loads

Limits and non-goals

This checklist fixes missing launcher / bubble. It does not fix:

  • Wrong product answers (catalog / Knowledge Hub)
  • Order lookup failures (scopes / order number flow)
  • Reply limits or billing blocks
  • Live agent takeover (Appifire uses contact handoff, not in-widget agent join)

For those, use the Technical Troubleshooting Playbook, How Order Status and Tracking Work in Appifire Chat, or Appifire Billing and Credits Explained.

When to escalate

Contact support (contact) if Steps 1-7 fail. Include:

  1. Store domain
  2. Live theme name
  3. Exact URL tested
  4. Desktop and/or mobile
  5. Screenshot of Appearance visibility + Theme Editor App embeds
  6. Time tested (include timezone)
  7. Whether a clean theme preview shows the bubble
